2 Charlottesville, Va., residents remember the 2017 ‘Unite the Right’ rally Five years ago a car slammed into a crowd of counterprotesters. One person was killed and a dozen injured. Lisa Woolfork was in that crowd. She remembers that day with her friend Kendall King-Sellars.

Hi, I'm Lisa, convener/founder of Black Women Stitch

I love to sew! I am also a scholar/academic, specializing in African American literature and culture. After harrowing experiences with racist terror attacks in Charlottesville, Virginia, I decided to build a Black feminist liberation space of care that celebrates the creative lives of Black women, girls, and femmes. That’s how Black Women Stitch came to life: a combination of my sewing knowledge, academic vocation, and activist training.
