Hi, I'm Lisa, convener/founder of Black Women Stitch

I love to sew! I am also a scholar/academic, specializing in African American literature and culture. After harrowing experiences with racist terror attacks in Charlottesville, Virginia, I decided to build a Black feminist liberation space of care that celebrates the creative lives of Black women, girls, and femmes. That’s how Black Women Stitch came to life: a combination of my sewing knowledge, academic vocation, and activist training.

We won! Celebrate!

Black Women Stitch SEW BLACK AFFINITY SPACE (a four-day event at QuiltCon 2024 in Atlanta) is a WINNER in the Anthem Awards! Our category is Community Space in Education, Arts and Culture (nonprofit).
